**I am fully booked 2019, but I am still able to take No Frills Wedding Cake Orders!**
Thank you for your interest in booking a wedding cake consultation with The Ottawa Cake Lady. Below you will find the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions:
Q: Is there a charge for wedding consultations?
Consultations are free for orders over $250.00 ($25.00 charge for orders under $250.00), which include cake and filling samples for 2 people.
Q: When are you available for wedding consultations?
Since all of my design work is during the week, I book consultations on weekends according to my delivery schedule, and are approximately 1 hour in length.
Q: How far in advance should I book?
My wedding schedule books up about one year in advance, so in order to avoid disappointment, please book your consultation as far in advance as possible.
Q: How many people can I invite to the consultation?
The consultation is a time for us to discuss the costs, design and details of the cake. It is not a tasting party; rather, it is a time for me to focus on what I can do for you in order to make the perfect wedding cake for you. For this reason, consultations are limited to two people only.
Q: What happens during a wedding cake consultation?
A wedding cake consultation is a chance for us to sit down together in a relaxed atmosphere so that I can answer all your questions about icings, cake sizes, styles and current trends, and costs.
During the consultation, you will have an opportunity to taste a range of samples and flavour combinations from the wedding cake and fillings menu. If there is a specific flavour of cake/filling combination listed on the standard or upgraded menu that you would like to try, please let me know in advance, and it will be my pleasure to have it prepared for you. Limit of 3 cake/filling combinations per consultation please.
Working together, we will design the wedding cake of your dreams, completely personalized to compliment your taste and budget.
Q: Do I need to bring anything to the consultation?
If you have found any colour swatches, articles, pictures, or magazine clippings which show the design or style of cake you are considering, please feel free to bring them along. Whether they are exactly what you are looking for, or are only a close approximation, they can provide an excellent ‘jumping-off’ point for an old-fashioned brain-storming session. I also have an extensive selection of pictures you can look through to help you to help decide on style, shape, colour, and configuration concepts.
Q: When do I need to pay for my cake?
One-half (1/2) of the total amount of the cake is required as a deposit for my services at the time of booking, payable by credit card (Square electronic invoicing), cash or e-transfer. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the event date.
Please note that your wedding date is not booked/held into my schedule without a booking deposit.
Approximately one month before the wedding, I will send a “Just Checking In” email, so that I can confirm important details such as the cake flavours, design, and details, in addition to the reception time and location (this may have changed since the first time we spoke). Usually by this time you also know your final guest count, so we can adjust the size of your cake order accordingly. At this time, I also remind you that your final balance is due two weeks before your wedding date, along with the separate damage deposit cheque for any equipment you are renting from me.
To make a credit card payment, please request this option and I will send you an invoice via email. Just follow the easy Square instructions. Square is fast, free and secure!
- Six (6) months in advance – 100% of deposit will be returned.
- Three (3) months in advance – 50% of deposit will be returned.
- One (1) month in advance – 0% of deposit will be returned.
Q: What can I do about a cake toppers?
I can provide gumpaste, royal icing or fondant floral toppers for you. I can also recommend some local florists that may be able to help you with a fresh flower topper.
Q: Do you rent cake stands?
No, at this time I do not rent cake stands. The cake is placed on a white, silver or gold cake drum (a heavy-duty cake board) for easy placement on any cake stand that you wish to provide at the reception venue.
Q: Do you make “fake” or Styrofoam layers?
Yes, I can add fake tiers or design fully artificial cakes. Please be aware that the same amount of work, time, and detail is put into your cake whether it is cake or Styrofoam, so there is no difference in cost.
